It’s unclear who Chip is, how the vocal stylings of Chino Moreno and
Everlast (among others) appear on ‘his’ debut and what relationship Chip
hopes his band will have with the heavy-listening community. But mystery
or no, Hesher’s reach exceeds Hesher’s grasp on Hesher’s eponymous
debut, mainly because Hesher can’t seem to leave a decent melody alone
without burdening it with sonic clutter and unfunny, ridiculous song
titles only Hesher seems to understand. Godawful covers of "My
Generation"? Samples bearing all the depth and texture of a burp set to
Yoko Ono chanting "number eight"? It’s all very bizarre, but not quite
interesting enough to be more. Your average headbanger already stopped
reading after the word ‘samples.’
