The closest thing the underground has ever had to a true supergroup, Down is back with its second disc of smoke-filled, beer bashed, brazen Doritos chips of Black Sabbath stabbings turned 2002. Fronted by Pantera’s Phil Anselmo, Corrosion Of Conformity guitarist Pepper Keenan, Crowbar guitarist Kirk Windstein, Pantera bassist Rex Brown and Eye Hate God drummer Jimmy Bower, Down is a southern swampy noise blast with raw production and gutsy music. Allowing Rex to join the band (even though he is from Texas), the band holed themselves up in a “barn somewhere in South Louisiana” where they slept upstairs and exploded Sabbath-isms and more downstairs. With enough red in the eye to make Cheech & Chong’s jaw drops, Down are just plain out there and rocking it with nothing but good times. No preconceived idea of “where this is all going,” as long as it involves a stop for some Coors Light and some rolling paper.
