Run Devil Run - "Sinking Deeper" (Victory) |
Run Devil Run is a side-project band featuring members of The
Spudmonsters, In Cold Blood and Brother's Keeper. In early '99 the band
toured Europe with Pro-Pain, and because of the feedback of this tour, the
band was invited to play the Dynamo Open Air festival and the Dour festival
later that year. For 2000, the band has an album out on Victory Records
called 'Sinking Deeper'.
This album is straight-up hardcore music, done well. The music is
excellent. The riffs are simple, but they throw out tons of energy. At
times you can hear a strong metal influence, as the riffs can really drive,
and at times a more punk influence is evident. Between the hard riffs and
the pummeling breakdowns, it is hard to not move to this CD. The vocals are
good, though vocalist Foose does sound constipated at times. Every song
conveys a meaning, and Fosse delivers his messages with feeling. Run Devil
Run pays tribute to the old school hardcore bands by covering songs from the
Gorilla Biscuits (Stand Still) and the Cro-Mags (It's The Limit). Run Devil
Run did have some help from friends while recording this album. Contributing
guest vocals on 'Force Fed Reality' are Dave and Dan Quiggle and on 'Temple
Of Jiva' Jason Anthony helps out.
Overall, I enjoyed 'Sinking Deeper'. The album has tons of energy and
really does contain an "old school" hardcore feel. Run Devil Run is
definitely worth checking out, if you like hardcore music that is.
