Australia’s determination to dominate the global metal scene continues to gain momentum with Queensland based label Skull And Bones Records signing up Perth act Gallows For Grace.
Having formed only a couple of years ago, Gallows For Grace certainly made a name for themselves on the live circuit, with high profile support slots to international acts such as Job For A Cowboy, Darkest Hour, Obituary, Most Precious Blood, Dismember and The Devil Wears Prada, without any official release behind them.
But after a spell in Depth Studios alongside producer Geoff Eaton, the five piece act (who comprise of vocalist Bleak, guitarists Dave Wratten and Joel, bassist Joshua William and drummer Chris) have finally emerged with their debut EP offering A Process For The Destruction Of Tomorrow.
After a brief spoken word piece that depicts a twisted take on death as more a cause of celebration (“Rites”), the band get down to business with the opening track “World Eater.” Sound-wise, Gallows For Grace deliver a mix of technically challenging death metal and metal/deathcore, with a slight hint of melody. Despite the fact that the band’s sound is pretty stock standard in term of the chosen direction, Gallows For Grace manage to deliver a pretty solid song overall.
“The Process” and “Primordial Orbit” are definitely two of the faster efforts on the EP, with Bleak really making his presence felt on the vocal front, while “Purest Atrophy” is by far the pick of the five tracks with its slight progressive edge.
Finishing up the EP is “Revealing The Helical Nether,” which is again another excellent display of skills possessed by the two guitarists.
Gallows For Grace aren’t doing anything revolutionary on their debut EP, but what they lack in originality, they make up in one pure bludgeoning assault from start to finish. At the very least, A Process For The Destruction Of Tomorrow is one hell of an entertaining release, and one that shows a lot of promise for the future.
